Moving into a coworking space is exciting, and if this is your first week, we’re sure you’re anxious to get going. You might be wondering how things are going to play out, and worried about adjusting to this new type of working environment. Don’t worry! We’re here to help. Avoid these three pitfalls, and your time at your new coworking space is sure to be pleasant and productive.

Have An Unfriendly Attitude

If you’re an introverted person, you might be a little worried about how much socializing you’re expected to do in a coworking space. The answer is this: minimal socializing is required here. When you’re at your coworking space, you’re there to work, and your fellow coworkers understand that. Since this is well understood, there’s no need to give off a standoffish vibe or be rude in order to push people away. It’s important to stay friendly to the people around you, in order to keep a peaceful atmosphere in the space. Don’t feel pressured to carry on long conversations if you don’t want to, but saying hi or good morning once in a while can go a long way in creating a positive space.

Hog The Amenities

There are a lot of resources available for your use in a coworking space. However, this doesn’t mean you should take advantage of anything that’s around. This includes the shared spaces, such as open seating areas or conference rooms. While these are always available, it’s important not to completely dominate the spaces needlessly, by spreading out your papers where people would normally sit, or renting the conference rooms if you don’t really need it. This also includes the coffee bar, or other amenities available. While these are free of charge, they really shouldn’t be taken on the way out the door every day. Try to be courteous with your usage and leave enough for the rest of your coworkers.

Be Loud In Quiet Zones

As I’m sure you were explained during your tour of the space, there are designated quiet areas throughout the space. If you’re on a phone call, or having a nice chat with one of your coworkers, move to one of the open seating zones, or even take a phone booth if needed. Keeping the volume level down in the quiet areas helps make the coworking space somewhere where you can effectively work on any type of project.
